Things Zoë Can Do

Zoë is 11 weeks old. I can't believe she will be 3 months old next week. Here are some things that she can do now:

1. she has a different cry for how she is feeling.
2. she has found her hands and enjoys sucking on them and hitting at her toys.
3. she likes to pull up on her shirt and blanket to put them in her mouth.
4. she has been sleeping through the night (most nights) for almost 3 weeks now.
5. she smiles ALL the time.
6. she throws in a giggle here and there.
7. she follows objects very well
8. she sleeps in her own room
9. she puts herself to sleep when we lay her down for bed
10. she knows when I am around and will follow me with her eyes.
11. she holds her head up extremely well and can sit in her Bumbo with little support.
12. she is a good little traveler
13. Zoë loves baths
14. Zoë LOVES music.

Those are just a few things that she is doing now for those of you who do not live close enough to us to have the chance to see her. It is really amazing how much she changes from week to week. It is good that I can write a few things down here otherwise I may forget when she could certain things. We weighed her today and are a bit worried. She is at about 10 lbs. At her 2 month check up she was 10.2. Does anyone know how much they are supposed to weigh at 3 months? Her next appointment is September 4th. I guess I thought that she should weigh a lot more than that.

Zoë is definitely a snuggler and enjoys tucking her head on the side of your neck while on your chest. She could stay there all day if I let her. She has been going longer now between feedings. She is not the best at taking a bottle and does better at taking one when I am not around. She will have nothing to do with a binky. She LOVES her baths and will splash her hands into the water and watch her toys. Zoë loves classical music and will listen intently when it is playing. It is funny to watch. The dogs are getting used to her. They do not get the same amount of attention but they are warming up to her.

Anyway, I thought I better write some things down before I forget. :-)

Sore

Well, I took a short run yesterday and found that I am really sore today. Go figure! :-) Not running for 11 months really does you in when you try to start up again. My sisters came over today and I was showing them something on the computer. We were listening to some different types of music and a Bob Marley song came on and started out, "Oh, Pirates..." and then Zoë giggled. It surprised us so much that we had to sing it out loud to her again and again to try to get her to do it again. :-) It was fun. I am going to miss having Bethany and Mary here at home. I love having them just a call away. Bethany is graduating this year...whoa! I feel like I just graduated the other day. CraZy!!

I spent this last week with my Aunt Julie. I really believe that God is going to answer our prayers for her and heal her. I was reminded of the faith that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had in God. They would not bow down to an idol. Daniel 3:14-18


14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up?
15 "Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?"
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
17 "If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.
18 "But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up."

They trusted God that He would deliver them and even "if not" they would not serve another god. As we know God answered their prayers and saved them through the fiery furnace. I am reminded of something that Beth Moore said in one of her bible studies: God answers our prayers through a fiery trial one of 3 ways:
A. He delivers us from the fiery trial... (bringing glory to His name for the miracle and strengthening our faith.)
B. He delivers us through the fiery trial... (bringing glory to his name by strengthening our faith and purifying us by releasing us from bondage.)
C. He delivers us by the fiery trial by taking us to heaven... (our faith becomes reality)

Most of us in our humanity think that A would be the best answer to our prayers and we don't want to experience B and yet in reality C is the best choice. If we only knew what heaven was in reality none of us would want to be left here on earth. I guess this was just one of the things that I was pondering while I watched my aunt Julie walk faithfully through the fiery trial of lung cancer.

Zoë is Changing Fast

Zoë seriously has changed in the last 2 and a half months! Amazing! She is really growing. She looks so much like a newborn in this video.

Funny Facts

Fact: I am learning that it is sometimes hard to be a mom.
Fact: Poop finds a way to defy gravity and travel up a baby, and not only that, it knows to come out the front of the diaper and not the back... amazing!

OK...story.... yesterday Paul and I went up to the ropes course with the band at Super Summer. I took the baby jogger which I have to say that we love because it is so versatile. Anyway, it all was going well up there in the forest... baby sleeping... etc. When Katie, a band member's wife, said... "Zoë's crying." I went over, thinking that I was going to just sit on a stump and feed her quickly, when I saw the yellow on the front of her onesie. Yes, it was poop and it had defied gravity and traveled up the front of her onesie. (This is where I make a plug for cloth diapers....Zoë has never blown one out...only disposables.) I was not laughing. I had to take her right down the mountain back to camp ASAP. She was screaming... I was ticked. (not at her... just at myself for not bringing the diaper bag up.) I ended up having to take a shower with her because she was a mess. She was screaming... poor thing. I then ended up having to do some laundry...which didn't work at first... I was frustrated. Finally I found someone who helped get my quarters back and get the poopy laundry started... yikes! What an afternoon!

Camp and Zoë

Well, we made it through a camp with Zoë. She did really OK. It was a different year as I could not do all the things that I have done in years past. I thought that I could team lead but I found that they did not need me so I helped where I could. It was a wonderful week. Megan Hutchinson did a great job speaking. She has written a book called Secret Survivors to help people know that there is hope for healing with Christ.

Shot "UP"

I guess I should update you all on what has been going on the last couple of weeks. Well, Zoë had a great 2-month check up. She is a 10 pounder now in the 45th percentile for weight and 70th percentile for height. We then took her to get her first set of shots... not easy. I am so glad that I have Paul. He held her gently and I bawled my eyes out as she cries. It was aweful!! I am so glad that the first ones are done. Paul and I then went to the movie "UP". It is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It is wonderful to go to on a date and it is for all ages....so, grandma and grandpa....you need to go see it!! Please go and see it. I like it when good movies with family values are well attended. IT IS SOOOOOO WORTH IT!! (especially to see it 3-D in the movie theatre).

A Walk for Julie

Here is the Relay for Life picture that we took. Paul, Zoë and I took a walk around the track for my aunt Julie who is fighting lung cancer. Julie, we are praying for a cure!
